A brief explanation of healing by the Healing Practionier Association International
What is it?
It can certainly be said that healing is not new. It goes back right
through the ages to primitive man. The practice of healing throughout
the ages seems to have found favour at some periods, only to fade into
the background at other times, then to return again as in our present
time.
Healing can be defined as an energy to which the healer attunes himself/herself. The healer becomes the channel to transfer this energy to the patient. This can also be done remotely to the patient, and is often known as Absent or Distance Healing. Send an email to us with names of those you would like added to our healing book.
How does it work?
The approach is a holistic one; that is to say, the healer is concerned
with harmonising body, mind and spirit. This may involve talking to the
patient by way of counselling and the laying on of hands. Instruction
in positive thinking and self-healing may also be given.
What part do you play?

The healer will expect your co-operation. Please have an open mind, and
a positive approach. Healing is often described as being progressive,
so be patient and wait for the results. Try to be open and discuss
matters with the healer. All recognised healers are bound by a code of
practice.
What about medical treatment?
Healing is regarded as a complementary therapy; it is certainly not a
substitute for medical treatment therefore, if you are receiving
treatment from your doctor you must continue to do so. All recognised
healer aim to work in close co-operation with the medical profession.
If you have not sought medical advice and a healer advises you to do
so, you should take note of that advice.
How to contact a healer.
The Association holds a directory of its recognised certified healers.
For more information please ring 01908 608561. All recognised certified
healers are issued with an identification card, which has a photograph
of the healer and a membership validity date. You are quite within your
right to ask to see this card.
The Association
The Association takes considerable care when accepting applicants to
become recognised as certificated healers, however, it cannot hold
itself responsible for any acts or omission by any individual healer
who may in anyway operate outside the Code of Conduct and Practice laid
down by the Association. You can inform the Association in writing if
you are not happy with the way in which you are being treated by an
individual healer.
The British Register of Complementary Practitioners
The Institute for Complementary Medicine, to which our Association is
affiliated, administers the British Register of Complementary
Practitioners. There are a number of complementary therapies on the
register including healing. Some of the certificated healers within the
Association have undergone further training to become
Healer-Counsellors, some of whom have chosen to apply to be included on
the British Register, whilst others have become healer-Counsellors
within the Association.
Courses
The Association runs many courses across the UK. Courses are designed to assist healers within their work.
Many local groups run meditation groups, medium training, and other courses.
Probationer Healer Training
The foundation course and the period of supervision is undertaken by Certificated Healers
in various parts to the country, often referred to as Trainers.
The cost of the Training Pack is £20.00 and is obtainable from your Trainer. Trainers may make a charge for conducting the foundation course; this is a matter to be discussed with the Trainer.
In respect of would be potential Probationer Healers there is a Training Pack available. The foundation course is for a period of twenty-four hours, usually spread over a period of twelve weeks. If successfully completed the person can then apply to become a Probationer Healer with the Association.
Following this there is a period of not less than nine months which the Probationer Healer works under the supervision of a Certificated Healer, during which time there is practical laying on of hands experience as well as some further theoretical instruction.
After successful completion of the foundation course the Trainer will sign a statement which is on the reverse of the application form to become a Probationer Healer. During the nine months supervision the Trainer carries on a Continuous Assessment, which will be discussed with the Probationer Healer, this is done on a three monthly basis and the Declaration of Training Booklet is completed each time.
After successfully completing the probationary period, the Probationer Healer can then apply to the Association to become a Certificated Healer. There must be three people who can testify to the benefit received from their healing in writing. Also written evidence from the Assessor. All this information will be asked for on the Certificated Healer application from which is obtained from the Trainer.
The Healer Counsellor Course prepares the Healer to practice as a Healer Counsellor under the banner of the Association, or they may apply to the British Register for Complementary Practitioners, which is held by the Institute for Complementary Medicine, to which the Association is affiliated.
